UNESCO designated October 17 as International Poverty Eradication Day. This commemoration was first implemented in 1993 in France with the aim of raising global awareness about the problem of poverty. This year's commemoration carries the theme "Ending Social Persecution and Institutions Acting Together for a Just, Peaceful and Inclusive Society".
