The Indonesian National Army (TNI) is an organizational development that began with the name of the People's Security Agency (BKR). Furthermore, on October 5 1945 it became the People's Security Army (TKR), and to improve its composition in accordance with international military principles, it was changed to the Indonesian Republic Army (TRI).

To unite the two armed forces, namely the TRI as the regular army and the people's struggle bodies, on June 3 1947 the President officially authorized the establishment of the TNI Army.
